Looking to replace Klopp...Amorim eventually left Sporting, joined Liverpool
Liverpool FC is busy appointing coach Jurgen Klopp. The appointment of CP coach Ruben Amorim is in the final stage.
Florian Platenberg of Sky Sports in Germany said on the 9th (Korea Standard Time), "Amorim has completed a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool," adding, "The contract period is until 2027, and no agreement has yet been reached between the clubs."
Liverpool is parting ways with Jurgen Klopp at the end of this season. Klopp was appointed from Liverpool during the 2015-16 season. He led Liverpool through its heyday. He topped the UEFA Champions League in 2018-19, and won the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years in 2019-20.
However, in January, Klopp announced his resignation. Klopp said, "I'm not as young as I used to be. I didn't want to know, but I came to know it naturally. This club needs the best coach, not me. Now is the right time."
Liverpool quickly began to select its successor. Originally, the team most wanted manager Xavi Alonso Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen has emerged as the best team in the Bundesliga this season under Alonso. Currently, the team is in first place with 24 wins, four draws, and 76 points, 16 points ahead of second-place Bayern Munich.
Alonso also received strong attention from Munich. Nevertheless, he chose to stay with Leverkusen. Alonso said, "The work at Leverkusen is not done yet. I've put everything together and made my decision. I have a lot to prove and I need more experience." "This is the right place for me to grow."
In the end, Liverpool also turned to another coach. I contacted Amorim, who is enjoying a successful career in Sporting. Amorim drew attention by leading SC Braga to a cup championship in the 2019-20 season, and Sporting activated the release clause to change the team.
He was recognized for his leadership by helping Sporting advance to the UEFA Europa League, ranking fourth in the league from its first season. In the 2020-21 season, the Tassada Liga gave Sporting the trophy for the first time in two years. He then led Sporting to their first league win in 19 years, becoming the Primera Liga coach of the year.
Having won the trophy by Tasari in the 2021-22 season, Amorim continues to lead Sporting's rise this season. Sporting lead the Portuguese league. They are only four points clear of second-place Benfica, but they have a very good chance of winning as they have played one less game.
Now, Amorim looks to take on a new challenge in Liverpool. Inter-club agreement is the most important thing. Currently, Amorim has a $20 million buyout clause in his book for foreign clubs outside of Portugal.
Amorim is also known to have received love calls from clubs other than Liverpool. Plattenberg added that although Amorim is on the list of candidates for Munich's next coach, he is not acquainted with him and Chelsea have been inquiring about Amorim
