Jupyter Notebooks

  1. Recover deleted notebook and data

There is no confirmation to delete notebooks/data, or the ability to recover delete notebooks/data. This is dangerous! :O

  2. need a way to manage running notebooks

When I have many notebooks and some of them are running, the kernel does not get started. So, I have to go through all of my notebooks, find the ones that are running and stop them. I need a feature to show me all of the running notebooks in one screen, instead of checking each of them one by one.

  4. Share ipython notebooks on github

If you could provide an option to share ipython notebooks in DSWB on github, that would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

  5. Why I encounter error 502 when I try to log in?

Hey, does anyone knows if the workbench is undergoing any maintenance or something else? I used the Jupyter Notebooks just a few hours ago and it was good. But just now, I can't log into the workbench, there's always a 502 error. Is this a temporary issue or other things are happening?
    Thanks.

  7. Give students the code in .ipynb files to store locally rather than hosting them in a faulty cloud service

    IF

    1. This service is being paid for

    2. Your Jupyter Notebooks service is often down

    3. The course is paid for on a monthly basis (Time = Money)

    THEN

You should provide the .ipynb files for student to store on their own device to complete lab sessions

    ELSE

Respond to user queries/ Get it fixed quick

    AND

Refund everyone for the time the service is down/intermittent.

    OR

Provide the service at no cost.

  8. Jupyter notebooks go missing mysteriously

I have recently noticed that when I open the DS Workbench to go to Juypter, my notebooks are missing. It sometimes shows only 1 of workbooks, other times, it shows Untitles1.pnyb

In the attached screenshot, please observe that all my worksbooks that I worked on for my deep learning class are missing. Please fix asap.

  9. Autocomplete commands in R using tab

In Python notebooks, you can use tab to autocomplete a command. Would like the same feature in R.

  10. mxnet with gpu

The Idea is to installing mxnet-cu80 (mxnet-cu90, mxnet-cu91 or mxnet-cu92). But the issue is mxnet-80 has dependence with the instalation of libnvrtc8.0 which is installed by the linux console. And there is not possible due to Administrative privileges.

    Thank You!

  12. [R] Variable assignment using "<-" causes auto-tabbing behaviour in R notebooks

Every time I assign something using "<-" as in:
    a <- 1
the next line becomes auto-tabbed, because it thinks that my line is incomplete.

Please make the notebooks recognize the "<-" as variable assignment.

  13. Sidebar for the management and uploads should be on the left side

It is a bit strange to see the side bar on the right. Common convention is to have it on the left of the notebook.

  15. What's the idle policy/idle timeout for jupyter lab?

Sometimes we have to have long-running tasks! How does idling work for jupyter lab? Can I close the browser tab or suspend my local client while the kernel continues running on your side?

If I connect from two different computers, do I use two different kernels, or can I continue from the same kernel?

  16. Insert Import for Python file not working

The functionality to have a context menu for Notebooks and Python files is quite nice, but unfortunately it does not work for me.

I have a larger project with many local *.py files that are imported, yet in my Jupyter notebooks the dot-string that the "Insert Import" functionality gives me does not resolve. I.e. I get errors like:

    ----> 3 import data.mycode.QFog.Dag

    ImportError: No module named 'data'

I am suprised that this issue is not reported yet. It makes working with a large python project virtually impossible on the platform.

  18. OAuth2 server asks for empty permissions

I ran into this small usability issue. When I logged in with my user (cangiano) the OAuth2 server asked me to approve special permissions, only to fail to show me the list of required permissions. Clicking "Allow" lets you through, but it might be confusing for some users. Furthermore the "Save Consent" option doesn't appear to actually save the consent at the next login.

    See https://www.evernote.com/l/AAG97TbetTNMSImxEpixDDCN5X0QvxhySbI for reference.
